Thursday, December 14th, 2006I just sent a cover letter & resume to Avalon Publishing (www.avalonpub.com); they’re looking for an editorial assistant for two of their imprints (brands), one that does current affairs/history/fiction/mystery and the other does popular science/culture/current affairs. TOTALLY up my alley, so I whipped out a cover letter (thanks be to the colleague who gave me so many pointers for the Parents letter, I could take those same ideas & only go through 6 edits instead of 12 & do them all in 2 hours, yeehaw!) and off it went to the job that was posted TODAY, thankyouverymuch.
Had a bright idea while in the shower today*, really not ready to talk about it, but it has to do with expanding my master’s project once the term is over. Also registered for a “class” next term that isn’t really a class but is the campus literary nonfiction journal (http://etude.uoregon.edu) because I want more hands-on editing experience and to stay in university housing one must be registered for at least nine credits; master’s project is only six, so I needed something and why not make it a useful something rather than a PE class like I was pondering.
Have David Bowie stuck in my head. Love ya, Davey, but OUT!
Finished coworker’s UO hat, gave it to him today, will be paid by proxy (envelope in our boss’s office) this week sometime. Finished knitting item #1 of 24 in the largest order EVAR (happy dance) and it’s awesome. Pictures will come, scout’s honor, when it’s stuffed (it’s a ball. turquoise & pumpkin brown sheep lamb’s pride worsted. AWESOME). Have to make a trip to dyelots (http://www.blossomskincare.com/Dyelots.html), which is going to be awesome because ZOMGZORZ color! And texture! And heaven help me if I don’t fall down and take some silk hankies with me to take home & spin in the million hours I have to spare, because knitty’s tutorial (http://www.knitty.com/issuewinter05/FEATsilkhankies.html) has me convinced that I could TOTALLY DO THAT.
Today was my last day of teaching in the after school program. Made the pumpkin muffins from Vegan with a Vengeance (http://www.powells.com/biblio/1-1569243581-0) and the kids DEVOURED them. They were nice enough to share (each group of three kids made a batch of 18 muffins…well, one group made 16 overfilled muffins & the other made 18, but whatever), and I had one coworker & two kids not in my class ask for the recipe. Not bad for my last day. Tomorrow: investigate unemployment eligibility.
*Is it that all in-shower ideas are bright, or do all bright ideas come in the shower? In any case, I do my best thinking while naked. Ponder that a while :-p
