Happy Loving Day!

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

OK, so on June 18, 1967, the US Supreme Court ruled that anti-miscegenation laws (laws prohibiting interracial marriage) violated the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, thus making interracial marriage legal in all 50 states. Hooray! This year, Loving Day (http://www.lovingday.org/) happens to fall on Father’s Day, and for our family that makes it even more special. I didn’t know about Loving v Virginia until my neighbor (a white gal “partnered” to a man from Kenya) gave me a flyer for today’s Loving Day festivities at Cozmic Pizza. Because of the sicklies, we didn’t get to go, but I’d like to try to go next year.

Father’s Day was alright on my end, made Trader Joe’s teriyaki pineapple salmon with onions & green bell peppers, rice, and black beans (for Llamaface, I don’t eat beans) and sat with Llama as he watched the Dallas/Miami game. That, in and of itself, is a gift – I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate basketball. Booooooooooor-ing. Oh yeah, and I bought him a camcorder, too, *grin* We have to get a cord before we can upload anything from the camera to the computer (they didn’t have any in Circuit City), but I got a $15 gift card for making a purchase over $299, so we’ll use that to get the cable we need.

In knitting (k)news, the watermelon basket (of DOOM) is drying in the bathroom, upside-down over my fishie strainer bowl, Leah Willamina, Liam’s girl!doll needs a skirt for her dress (bodice: done), Jann’s strawberry hat needs leaves & a top, and nothing else has been started yet. I have a list about a trillion miles long of stuff I need to make, stuff that has ostensibly been paid for (checks are in the mail), so I need to get on that fastfastfast. I put about a trillion books on hold at the library, so I can learn some new techniques (look for hand-painted self-striping sportweight superwash merino within a month or two!) and I can’t wait to start Sarah’s raspberry hat. New stitch techniques are always fun.

Black Sheep Gathering is this coming weekend, and I’m planning a meet-up along with some other bloggers. If you’re interested, drop me a line. There’s definitely going to be a group meeting at the Blue Moon Fiber Arts booth (building 3) at 1:30, but I think I want to be there like 11-12ish. This is on Saturday, of course; Friday I work until 6 & Sunday is a wedding at 1:00. Oh yeah, need to buy a gift for that, oops! Anywho, like I said, drop me a line if you want to get together at the BSG. Admission is free, alpacas are kewt (you will be ded fr0m teh kewt), and you might even learn how to knit if you stick around long enough! I’m hoping to learn how to drop-spindle :D

In Boogermonkey news, he’s getting better. Not nearly as bad as he was yesterday, though he still wanted to sleep most of the day & cling when he was awake. He does this thing where he latches on to my cheekbone, to give me “kisses,” and it makes me laugh, which makes him laugh, which makes me happy. He was doing it tonight, perhaps as proof he’s getting unsick & doesn’t need to see Dr. Litchman tomorrow. He’s a silly little thing, that Booger.
