what’s in a name? nablopomo 10/30
Choosing a name for the impending sprog has proved to be a challenge. We have a few that we keep tossing around, in various combinations, but nothing is hitting us as “right” the way it did the first time ’round. Part of the problem is we don’t want to use a name belonging to a friend or family member, we don’t want anything weird, I have a “no noun” rule, we’d like to stick to traditional spellings, and we don’t want the child’s initials to spell a word. Oh, and we have a Hispanic last name, so some of my favorites like Norah and Nigel are totally out of the question. This limits our options quite a bit. Another big problem is one of my friends, who doesn’t yet have children but wants to have them some day, has said that she wants a certain name, a name that I really really REALLY like. Granted, it’s just the first name, I’d use a different middle name, but still. I’ve been thinking about this name for a long time, long before she said anything to me about her hypothetical future children, but I don’t want to usurp her choice, yanno? So every few days, Llamaface & I mull over various combinations, vetoing some here & there, never really coming to any sort of conclusion. I’d like to start referring to my parasite by name and not just “the new kid” or “the baby,” but nothing’s coming to us. Good thing we have some time.

If it feels right, use it! What’s the big deal if your kid has the same name as her (hypothetical) kid, ya know?
Joe and I always have issues because we can’t agree on anything.

I kind of like Norah with your last name, the “a” sound at the end kind of ties it in with traditional Spanish names.
